NEHAWU & INTERNS

It's a shame 2 c Nehawu peolpe trying 2 lure us(Interns) on their side as if they are doing smthing good for us, they want us to join their union just to add their membership. These people are confusing us, one minute they tell us the Dept. is going to absorb us the other minute we are told Internship contract is bieng renewd what the hell? This is realy frustrating if u com 2 think of it, I just wish some1 from HR can come to us and tell as to exactly wht is hapening here bcoz at end of the day NEHAWU people are employees not the employer.

Guys Im happy that u are graduates. Cz now you seem to comment like matriculants. There is no way an intern can be send out of the Dept. Ixhalla when you know that u are performing, qualify, and indeed know the interview process then why do u act like u r intimidated by the process. Hayi kakubi yekani ukoyika

The circular or memo that requested interns' lists as per directorate and submission of directorates organograms for the purpose of the verification of the 167 ECDoE interns against vacant posts, brought the much desired and deserved hope. When the absorption of interns was published on the ECDoE's website there was an overwhelming response from the the interns, ECDoE's employees and the concerned members of te public alike. Two weeks ago (Friday, 26th February) interns were called into a meeting by Nehawu. An initial memo from HRA inviting interns to that particular meeting was later revoked by by a subsequent correspondence that informed us that HRD has cancelled a meeting with us. However a Nehawu shopsteward who is also an HRD official addressed the meeting on her capacity as a Nehawu shopsteward. Her address left a lot to be desired. It is true that that meeting was a ploy by Nehawu to get new members in the form of interns. The communique by Ms Qanda on the ECDoE website clearly stated that 167 ECDoE interns will be absorbed. When I was told this morning by one reliable source that only the interns who were employed in 2007 and 2008 will be absorbed, I was disappointed. I also cannot understand why appointment letters for contract renewals are given to all of us. I believe that interns should hold a meeting very soon before things get ugly. We are being taken for a ride by the ECDoE in general and the HRD/A in particular. We are not fools and we are not kids. In fact we are intellectuals in our own right and might. Its high time that the interns mobilised and give the ECDoE/HRD/A a clue of how powerful we can be when a need arises. We will not tolerated this nonsense.

Do what you think is right, don't get mislead by mass recruitment ploy's.Write a letter to HR and ask them in your own capacity the status of your own employment contract. It's better to have clarity on the matter for your own good instead of waiting for comrades who are unprepared when they call meetings.Prepair yourself 1st and worry about your own needs.Remember friends cloud your judgement not collegues. So keep it strict, workrelated and professional etchic's only apply in Education.
