The Directorate is co-hosting a Home Language Teaching and Learning (HLTL) conference with the Additive Bi-Lingual Education (ABLE) Projects that is based in three universities countrywide. The project seeks to implement the Language in Education Policy by teaching learners in their Home Language, isiXhosa in this case. The feasibility of this concept is being studied in a pilot conducted at Sosebenza School, situated in the Winterberg Area in Takastad (Cradock District). Currently in its fifth year, the project team is ready to present a project report in a conference that will demonstrate results achieved thus far, and deliberate on possibilities of extending the programme to other schools in the Eastern Cape.
