The National Teachers’ Union is a historically Black Teachers’ Trade Union established in 1918 now opened to the Nation, for purposes of: Improving the quality of teaching and learning which in turn leads to the general improvement in Education. Working for the improvement of the conditions of service for teachers in general and attending to the needs and problems of its members in particular.

South African Democratic Teachers' Union - SADTU
SADTU was founded in 1990 following successful teacher unity talks to establish a national unitary non-racial and non-sexist union of educators. Today the union's membership stands at 230,000 representing nearly two-thirds of South Africa's educators.

The Education Labour Relations Council (ELRC) is based in South Africa and serves the public education sector nationally. The ELRC is a statutory council, initially established by the Education Labour Relations Act of 1993 but now draws authority from the LRA of 1995. . The ELRC is primarily established with the aim of maintaining labour peace within public education. This is achieved through a processes of dispute prevention and dipute resolution.
