Eight of the Eastern Cape’s Further Education and Training (FET) colleges under the Eastern Cape department of Education will tomorrow the 12th of August 2010 kick-start the provincial FET Summit to be held at the Leadership Institute, Epsom Road, and Stirling in East London at 08:00 am.
The two day summit is meant to craft a long term vision of the college, with further intention to influence the national policy of these FET colleges. Topical issues to be discussed in this round table summit by all these education stakeholders and key role players include:
· Models of autonomy and legal/policy actions
· Programmes
· Planning and funding for 2011 and beyond
· Examinations
· Planning support for colleges for2011 with regard to staffing and learner recruitment
The event will be graced by the renowned education specialist and now Higher Education department Director General, Professor Mary Metcalf, who is scheduled to present a paper on the “New post education landscape and the role of colleges”.
Invited speakers who will present on summit include Dr Anthony Gewer (JET Education Services); Mpho Letlape of Inzalo Foundation at Sasol limited and the Eastern Cape Socio Economic Consultative Council (ECSECC) Human Resource Development Programme Manager, Dr Claudia Beck-Reinhardt, who will present a paper titled “Finding of the Provincial Systemic Audit in the FET and its relevance for the National Process”.
NB: All members of the media are invited in this summit as it will align and craft a strategy to run FET colleges ahead of their hand over to the Higher Education Minister in 2012.
