Matriculants-in-waiting who have not yet received their identity books from home affairs should phone the department's special 24-hour call centres for help, the department said on Thursday.
"This additional measure to assist matriculants will enable them to obtain their IDs timeously as they await their 2010 matric results," a statement from Home Affairs Minister Nkosazana Dlamini-Zuma said.
"We believe that this move will assist in preventing a last minute scramble when matriculants prepare to either enrol at institutions of higher learning or to seek employment."
Callers who have applied for, but not yet received, their ID books need to be able to provide full names, surnames and an identity number as it appears on the birth certificate; proof of registration for the 2010 matric examinations; an examination number; an examination centre number; and the provision of a cellphone or landline contact number.
The numbers to call are: 0800-601-190, 0800-204-476, 071-123-6353, 071-125-5631, 071-227-8438, 072-381-0836, 072-616-8819, 072-435-8569, 079-511-8810, 079-075-4326, 082-806-4945, 082-808-2782.
Callers will then receive an SMS informing them when they can collect the document
