The Department of Basic Education is working closely with the Eastern Cape Department of Education to find speedy solutions to the problems faced by the province. These include serious problems related to learner transport, school nutrition, the termination of the contracts of temporary teachers, Learning and Teaching Support Materials (LTSM) and the ongoing problem of school infrastructure.

The situation in the Eastern Cape Education Department is being addressed at the highest level. The Minister of Basic Education, Mrs Angie Motshekga, MP and Deputy Minister Enver Surty, MP visited the province two weeks ago to discuss the situation with the Premier and the MEC for Education. On 15 February 2011 the Director-General of Basic Education, Mr Bobby Soobrayan led a delegation to the Eastern Cape and met with the Superintendent-General of the Education Department to discuss the problems of the province, as well as to consider possible solutions.

The Director-General has since provided the Minister with a report on his visit to the province and Minister Motshekga is considering this report. Minister Motshekga is expected to make an announcement on the nature of a sustainable intervention in support of education in the Eastern Cape, in due course.

This is a relief to the province.Ever since the province is unerperforming, senio managers were always develop the un-inplementable turnaround strategies ever since 2008.It is pathetic when the HRD does not know its employees. Its embarrasing for the department to keep on spending when the book balances are negative. These are the managers who are preaching to the schools on how to manage public funds, when themselves cannot.

Thanks to the minister to come with this idea of eastern cape to take the leadership of schools, imagine the year when I did my matric whereby the teacher dicided to leave the school to the private sector without even leaving somebody to take care of students that he was teaching, the worse part he was the one who had a knowledge of computer studies, just imagine a pity of us at that time I was doing matric expecting to come up with good results for me to go and study at University, fortunately I passed my matric with symbols made me to qualify for Information Technology, but my computer study was F of grade LG,but now I am an expect in IT,I tried to re-write my computer studies in march 2009,on the first day when I was supposed to write the practical, the computer was showing zeroes ,me and invigilators were shocked as soon as possible the Qumbu district called at provincial level to report the matter,a naught response came from Provincial level asking how many students who are writing ,the invigilator said only one,and the answer said to me,if I don't manage to open the file It means I am not ready for the exams, imagine the district told me to wake up early in the morning to write the exams but they were not quite sure about the venue,I was a comedy to securities were in Qumbu district as the officer was just shouting at me saying I must go to Qumbu Tech or wait arround town maybe I will write the exams at Little flower SSS,I was just waiting arround the town, only to wait for nonsense,I came the following day to write theory I wrote theory perfect, when I was looking for results, they said my results says Pending because of the practical I didn't write,no one who came to check in the following day from provincial level about the student who was supposed to be writing his higher grade level of computer studies in Qumbu Town until now, you will wonder what was the problem after moving with that file asking different people, the Data was created on windows vista, whereas in Little Flower S.S.S,.they used Windows98 the information about the file I got from the department of IT at Walter Sisulu University imagine about that, when I tried to open that Data the computer wast just saying enter CD,the CD is the one had Data, which was returned back to the marking area of EC or at national level, maybe the Marker was suprised to see the CD of the student empty, but under those circumstances my future is not anyone's hand it is in me,hence President Jacob Zuma says "don't ask what your country can do for you, but just ask what you can do for your country",the leader we vote and then we put into the office, they forget about those who elect them" yithatheni le Eastern Cape as youth we will die being futureless.I hope things will be better in EC now and I am glad that Qumbu is doing well no matter on my side It was just a bad luck but I can see, they tried their best to help me,ndiyofa ndinesingqala, higher grade has many options,if you seem to fail maybe you might get SG than LG,what explaination will I give to my future chidren when I have doctorate as I will have soon before 33 maybe

The HOD must make sure that all his employees both Office-based and school based educatora are equal to the task of focusing on classroom practice and leadership if ECDOE wants to focus on school improvement.Office based educators have a task of displaying a sense of professionalism and mature leadership, instead of using derogatory language to the senior managers and to their colleagues.Such actions belittle of who you are.Rise and shine, and provide direction to circuits and schools. Please read, read, read and read,so that you assist schools that their institutions are governed by educational laws and its policies.but not by perceptions and situational circumstances
