Public Servants in the Province of the Eastern Cape will be meeting for a mass prayer on Thursday, 14 July 2011 at the Eastern Cape Education Department and all its centres of power including learners, educators, parents and administrators to come together to uplift the state of education in the province.

In consideration of the challenges that the Department is currently facing, local church structures including South African Council of Churches will be at the fore of the prayer session scheduled to commence at 10h00 today.

Prayer Team Leader Pastor Ngcwelekazi Gwegwe who is also behind the co-ordination of this mass prayer session explained the reason behind the prayer as emanating from the “instability” within the department.

“Due to the challenges that the Department of Education is facing which have caused instability in administration and the entire education system, it is apparent that our Province is crying for a prayer”- she cited.

She also added that there was a need of all officials to be present during this event.

Quoting from a scripture verse, Gwegwe said it was essential for all officials of the Department of Education to be part of the session in meditating for solutions.

“If my people who are called my My name will humble themselves, and pray and seek My face and turn from the wicked ways, then I will hear from Heaven and will forgive their sin and heal their land”- she said citing the Christian bible’s 2 Chronicles 7: 14

Also expected to make remarks on today’s prayer session are Eastern Cape Premier Noxolo Kiviet, EC Education Department MEC and Superintended General , Mr Mandla Makupula and Advocate Modidima Mannya, respectively.

A plague is also to be unveiled by Provincial South African Council of Churches in support for positive change in the department.

It is a great pity that one who lives in a glass house will always throw stones to those who are not. Pastors can be called and pray till they are green. If the administration problem is not carefully addressed our beloved Education department is quickly running to the gutters. Executive managers must own up to their short comings and stop tyranny

Perhaps a prayer might do, bt I have doubts. Perhaps if as a ppl we could find decent platforms to express our discourse, we could go somewhere. Some ppl it seems are enjoying the chaotic state our dpt is in. Instead of ganging up for lasting solutions, it seems like some folks enjoy pouring paraffin in an already out of control "wildfire."
When will all this end? I hope tht this prayer will revive some ounce of consciousness in all of us who believe to take the meaning of it all to our hearts and minds daily so we can all do our jobs with one thing in common: building a bright future for the black child. Yrs might be in ex-model c school bcs u chose it tht way, bt others are not and its not a matter of choice to them. Ilizwe liyaphela, ikamva lwesininzi lomntana ontsundu limfiliba. Mhlambi kufuneka sizibuzile ukuba, sayeka ukukhathala ngemfundo yabantwana bethu? Okanye siphela nje ukucinga ngabantwana abazalwe sithi, owomnye umntu makazibonele? Hayini madoda, Hayini bo! Akwenziwa nje xa kufunwa ukulungiswa.
