Mrara opens Lady Frere School

The opening was graced by the presence of the Lady Frere Mayor, Government officials, members of the School Governing Body (SGB), community members and learners gathered together to celebrate the opening of the school.
The school was was established in 1977 with only 4 classrooms and a laboratory without equipment. There was a desperate need for circumstances to change, so the community and the department of education decided that a school must be built. Gcinubuzwe SSS was built and now has 7 classrooms, a hall, science laboratory, a computer lab with 62 working computers, an admin block with a sick bay and 16 toilets. It further has playgrounds, good fencing and a parking area. The curriculum has now also been extended and commercial subjects have been introduced.
Addressing the occasion, Mrara said 46% of the Eastern Cape's budget goes to education, "50 mud schools will be eradicated this year.” He went on to say that "education is a societal matter, and as parents, community members and church leaders we need to get involved in our children’s school lives’, it is not the sole responsibility of the teacher to teach the learner’s."
A group of learners from the school said “we are so happy because when we go to university there will not be anything that we will be surprised by, we have computers, that we will learn to use, new subjects have been introduced. We are very excited and greatful to this process.
