Mannya receives words of appreciation

Eastern Cape Department of Education Superintendent General, Advocate Modidima Mannya received a heartfelt thank you from six students on behalf of Xolani Senior Secondary school (SSS) on the 29 November 2011.

As part of Mannya’s 67 minutes for Nelson Mandela Day, he went to Xolani SSS at Zwelitsha with several senior officials from Head Office to cut their grass, plant trees and flowers. During Mannya’s address to the school, he made a promise to them that he would return and repaint the school. Mannya stuck to his word and a month later he returned with inmates that assisted to repaint the school.

As a kind gesture, the principal of Xolani SSS wrote a letter thanking Mannya, however a few students wanted to deliver the letter and thank him personally. Asanda Lokwe a Representative Council of Learners (RCL) member addressed Mannya saying; “We are impressed with you for actually coming yourself to beautify our school. When you cut the grass you made the promise to come and paint the school. You stuck to your word and for that we are truly grateful.”

Andile Mila, a former RCL member was deeply inspired by Mannya as they come from similar backgrounds. Mila knows that even though he has been raised in Zwelitsha Township, currently lives here and schools here, that there is hope for him to improve this situation threw the example of Mannya.

Mannya was deeply touched and responded saying, “The government pays me to look after the children in the Eastern Cape, I’m not doing you a favour. All I want in return is for you to show respect to teachers, parents and your fellow students.

Thanks for your support to the school. Sir, I will glad to know if the "Temporal Teachers who are going to be jobless from January 1 not trained to implement CAPS come the same January when school reopens? If yes, is the cost of their training not misappropriation of funds as Education Department is losing them?
