The dire need to see Eastern Cape Province education focusing on the learner has prompted MEC Mandla Makupula to donate school uniform to Thembalesizwe senior secondary school in Ilitha Township near King William’s Town on 20 January 2012 at 11h00.

The donation follows a visit to the school last year by Makupula who could not believe the conditions of these learners.  Subsequent to that, the MEC organized the school uniform for all the school learners as per their need.

This happens despite the school having received all the necessary stationery for teaching and learning on time this year. This gesture to the school is to make these learners feel looked after despite their family background.  The uniforms to be donated include the following:

  • 57 Blazers for both boys and girls;
  • 51 school shirts  for boys and girls;
  • 51 school jerseys;
  • 45 pairs of school shoes;
  • 32 ties for both boys and girls;
  • 32 grey trousers for boys; and
  • 11 skirts for girls;

The practical stance by the MEC to donate school uniform is meant to inspire these learners to know that despite their background focused energies can help them focus on learning during school hours.  The media is therefore invited to be part of this event and a briefing session has been scheduled after it for the media.

Issued by: Communications Unit, Eastern Cape Dept. of Education.

What the ANC is all about is freedom charter. Instead they are doing the right opposite, apartheid government never run out of funds and they never chased people out of their jobs. I think ANC allows their party member to hold position without qualifications come 2012

The MEC has done a good thing about supporting the learners but my corncern about ANC general they like to work for the papers, leaving temporary teachers hungry and thier families instead of educating them to be quilfied teacher, how money people around the province who are employed in management position with no qualifications????
