Eastern Cape Education MEC Mandla Makupula has captured the semints of all in the Department when he expressed his shock and condolences in the aftermath of the horrific accident on the R61 invloving a Cradock Primary School bus and a minibus taxi. In total the accident claimed 17 lives, with 2 from the school. As a result of the accident the school lost its principal Mr Wimpie van der Merwe and a Preparatory learner SC Ferreira.
MEC Makupula and his acting HoD Mthunywa Ngonzo are planning to visit the school tomorrow to both express the Department's heartfelt condolences and also assess the urgent steps to take in order to enable the school to get back on its feet after this tragedy.
The school will remain closed for monday whilst the district office together with staff takes stock of prevailing circumstances.
