On 30 December 2008, Eastern Cape Department of Education MEC Mahlubandile Qwase launched the official website of the department during the announcement of Matric Results at Christian Centre in East London.
Addressing the audience, MEC Qwase said the launching of the website was delivering to the Batho Pele Principles of Information Access and the Promotion of Access to Information Act (PAIA).
The revamped ECDoE website (www.ecdoe.gov.za) includes interactive features, giving visitors the opportunity to interact with the department. The interactivity allows visitors to post their ideas, opinions and education initiatives. Other features include an events calendar with district events, the MEC's latest news and monthly features. The site also allows learners to download Matric Results, past exam papers, Registration of Unemployed Educators on our Database, departmental policies and list of schools with their contact details, vacancies, tender bulletins etc. The website is easily accessible (free government internet) at Post Offices and Multi-Purpose Community Centres (MPCCs).
