In a bid to assist the adult candidates that will be writing the Senior Certificate examination (old matric) commencing on 2 May 2012, the Department of Basic Education has posted copies of the examination guidelines and syllabi on the website of the Department of Basic Education. The syllabi and the examination guidelines are the key documents that are used in the setting of the questions papers and they specify the scope and depth of the knowledge and skills that will be covered in the examination.

Approval for the release of Examination Results
The National Senior Certificate (NSC) examinations are administered by two private assessment bodies viz. the Independent Examinations Board (IEB) and Eksamensraad vir Christelike Onderwys (ERCO) and the Department of Basic Education (DBE). The IEB also administers the examinations for the General Education and Training Certificate (GETC) ABET level 4.

Monitoring of the examinations to be conducted at all levels Nationally, Umalusi, Provincially and at District level. There will be a total of about 368 monitors to be deployed in the 23 districts and 16 monitors from the provincial office.
