On Tuesday, 6 March 2012, Deputy Minister for National Basic Education (DBE) Mohamed Surty visited two primary schools and a high school in the King William’s Town district accompanied by delegates from his office as well as officials from provincial office.

Last Friday, the 3rd of March 2012 saw the launch of a campaign headed by Cecilia Osei-Adagwa aimed at curbing drug abuse in the school.

In a bid to assist the adult candidates that will be writing the Senior Certificate examination (old matric) commencing on 2 May 2012, the Department of Basic Education has posted copies of the examination guidelines and syllabi on the website of the Department of Basic Education. The syllabi and the examination guidelines are the key documents that are used in the setting of the questions papers and they specify the scope and depth of the knowledge and skills that will be covered in the examination.

The number of candidates qualifying for admission to a Bachelor Degree increased from 10 225 to 10 291. Diploma courses increased from 15 281 to 15 530, which is an increase from 23.8% and for Higher Certificate from 11 711 to 12 102.

Cradock tops Eastern Cape Matric Results

The Eastern Cape got a result of 58.1%, which was a mere .02% decrease from the 2010 matric results. Despite many major factors, the results were consistent and stabilized in comparison to the previous year’s results.

This morning, 14 October 2011, the Eastern Cape's department of education's Superintendent General, Adv. Modidima Mannya convened a meeting with the School Governing Bodies (SGBs) of 15 schools in Alice that have been adversely affected by the teacher work stoppage, that, they claim, is as a result of the Department's interdict against 14 South African Democratic Teachers Union (SADTU) members.
