Addressing the packed Queenstown Indoor Sports centre during the schools rationalisation and re-alignment public hearings, Makupula did not shy away from the fact that according to him key issues leading to these battles are the redeployment of excess educators by the department to where their services are needed and the termination of temporary educators in line with the Peter Morkel model.

Eastern Cape Education MEC, Mandla Makupula, will resume week 2 of the provincial School Readiness Programme with a visit to all the schools that benefitted from a presidential visit last year when Pres. Jacob Zuma visited the province on a monitoring tour of educational institutions in Mdantsane and Peddie.

Approval for the release of Examination Results
The National Senior Certificate (NSC) examinations are administered by two private assessment bodies viz. the Independent Examinations Board (IEB) and Eksamensraad vir Christelike Onderwys (ERCO) and the Department of Basic Education (DBE). The IEB also administers the examinations for the General Education and Training Certificate (GETC) ABET level 4.

A group of sixty four high school learners from all over Eastern Cape gathered in the Bhisho Legislature on 20 August 2011 to debate for the top spot to represent the province at the National Model United Nations South Africa [MUNSA] finals to be held in Cape Town in October 2011.
