Purpose: To render education planning and monitoring functions

Functions:

Over see the implementation of policy regarding education delivery and services to public ordinary schools to ensure that schools are functional.
The promotion and implementation of policy for curriculum delivery and support. The interpretation of policy regarding education provisioning in all education provisioning in all educational institutions including FET College, the ABET and ECD sectors.
The provisioning of policy for inclusive education, HIV/AIDS and schools nutrition programmes.
The provisioning of strategic policy, planning and research in line with national policy frameworks.
The determination of quality standards and the promotion thereof within the system.
The provisioning of professional leadership and management of systems in a co-ordinated manner towards ensuring quality education.
The provisioning of secretariat services to all management structures within the department.
The ongoing review of all departmental policies and advice on business process re-engineering needs.
Manage the targeting of resources in line with policy choices.
Provisioning of professional development through the Education Institute.
The Development and provisioning of tele-collaborative learning innovations and the management of knowledge.
