Curriculum Management & Assessment

The strategic content of education in the Eastern Cape — from early learning to the National Senior Certificate.

Curriculum overview

This page brings together everything an educator, learner, parent or partner organisation needs to engage with the curriculum: subject areas, assessment timetables, teacher development opportunities, eLearning, learner support, official circulars, and ongoing programmes and campaigns.

Teacher Development

The Department supports educator development through the Provincial Teacher Development Institutes (PTDIs), continuing professional teacher development (CPTD) programmes, subject advisor support, and structured mentorship. Teacher Development & Learning Institutions sits within the Curriculum Management branch.

eLearning & Digital Education

The Eastern Cape established its first provincial eLearning Centre in 2024 — an international event that signalled the Department's commitment to integrating technology into teaching and learning. The Centre supports digital pedagogy, learner content delivery, and educator upskilling on digital tools.

Updates on eLearning from the Curriculum branch are published in our Media & Gallery (see the e-Learning update video).

Learner Support

Learner Development & Social Support Services supports learners with care and support for teaching and learning (CSTL), the Integrated School Health Programme (ISHP), psychosocial services, and inclusive education. The Department continues to advance partnerships with the Departments of Health and Social Development to deliver wraparound support to learners.

Circulars & Notices

Curriculum circulars and notices are published in the Document Centre. Subscribe to the newsletter (Phase 2) to be notified of new circulars.
